Nathan Gonzalez – June 2016 Athlete of the Month

It’s funny how things work.  A little over a year ago, I noticed Nate was following us on Instagram.  About 2 months went by, and I noticed he was a CF LVL1 Trainer, but wasn’t training nor coaching at any specific box.   I contacted him and asked if he could come in so that we can speak about a coaching position.  He came in, became a member, and started our intern process.  From day one, he pushed himself.  Immediately, I knew we had someone special on hands.  Nate has become an amazing athlete and he continues to improve daily.  Furthermore, he is an exceptional coach.  It’s extremely rare for a coach to be chosen as Athlete of the Month, but Nate has gone above and beyond all expectations of a well-rounded CrossFit Athlete and a CrossFit Trainer.

Congratulations Nate.  I am extremely happy to have you as an athlete and a trainer.  I am happy with your progress thus far, and I know we will see you in the games sometime in the future!

  1. Why did you decide to join CrossFit Oakland Park?
    I joined Crossfit Oakland Park because it was one of the few gyms that reached out and seemed to be looking forward about me coming in.
  2. What has kept you at CrossFit Oakland Park?
    The welcoming atmosphere and support from other coaches and athletes is unparalleled. This is by far the most inviting atmosphere at a CrossFit gym that I have ever experienced.
  3. What is your athletic background?
    My athletic background is in baseball; I played roughly for about 15 years. Then I coached for two years at a local high school. 
  4. What are your athletic goals in and outside of CrossFit?
    Inside of crossfit I’ve decided that my goal is to just win the day; to take it one workout at a time and try to get a little better with every step. Outside of CrossFit, I am committed to eat well, and stay healthy overall. 
  5. Why did you decide to become a trainer / coach at CrossFit Oakland Park?
    I decided to stay with CrossFit Oakland Park as a coach because we have a great staff to work with.  We also have great athletes that strive to get better every day.  
  6. What does CrossFit Mean to you?
    CrossFit is a huge part of my life. Although its just working out, it has shown me anything can be possible with hard work. 
  7. What do you like most about being a coach?
    The best park about coaching is seeing an athlete improve and achieve things they thought was impossible.   
    Crossfit can be a hard journey,  and it always didn’t come so natural to me. So if you are just starting on your journey, don’t give up.  Stay committed, be consistent and work hard.
